Sir Robert Harvey was first elected Mayor of Waitakere City, New Zealand in 1992.

In 1998 he became the first Mayor of Waitemata / Waitakere to be elected consecutively for more than two terms.

Mr Harvey has been seminal in a number of ground-breaking initiatives, including the eco city concept, establishing the first Maori standing Committee Te Taumata Runanga, and initiating this country's only Memorandum of Understanding with Pacific Island peoples.
