Pilot of the ill-fated QF32 who saved the live of 440 passengers, a former RAAF officer and pilot

In November 2010, Richard De Crespigny was the pilot of the Qantas Singapore/Sydney flight when one of the engines exploded.

He saved 460 lives when they were able to safely land the aircraft in Singapore.

The incident brought into play Richard de Crespigny’s considerable skills involving teamwork, problem solving, judgement, knowledge, experience and putting years of highly-skilled training into practice.
Captain de Crespigny flew the 747 Jumbo for 18 years and was the first line captain to convert to the world's largest passenger aircraft - the Airbus 380 - in 2008.
Melbourne-born and educated Captain de Crespigny joined Qantas in 1986 following a career with the Royal Australian Air Force. During his time with the RAAF, he acted as Aide-de-Camp to two former Governor Generals Sir Zelman Cowen and Sir Ninian Stephen.
Author of best seller, QF32 and his second recently published book, Fly.
Made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) 2016.
