2019 Telstra Women in Business Finalist, resilience champion, breast cancer survivor

Monika Page knows challenge.

At five years old, she was the sole survivor of a major car accident that took her mother and spent many months recovering and learning to walk again. She financed her university marketing degree by working three jobs and at 31 she silently suffered through a year of severe post-natal anxiety following the birth of her son, in a time where talking about it would tarnish your reputation. So she didn’t. And in 2020, she faced yet another challenge with a diagnosis of the most aggressive breast cancer which required 11 months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and reconstruction.

What makes people resilient? Is it the personality we are born with? Is it the environment we are in? What makes some of us give up and some of us face challenges head on? Can we train ourselves to be more resilient or is resilience only for a select few?

To Monika, her life and the challenges she has faced seem ‘normal’ but it seems that many find her story not only interesting, but extraordinary. Not only has Monika retained a positive and happy outlook on life, she loves having a platform for spreading positivity and showing people that even throughout the curveballs life throws, we can choose to stay happy, if we know how to stay resilient.

Monika Page is a Senior Communications Specialist with over fifteen years’ experience of working in communications, community & stakeholder relationship management, media and marketing.
2019 Telstra Women in Business (WA) Finalist and a 2018 graduate of Leadership WA where she was voted valedictorian by her peers.
Currently works in the mining sector however has worked in corporate, public and not-for-profit roles which makes her a unique speaker in that she can relate to any audience. She has lived in the Pilbara for 8 years and worked throughout the Pilbara, Mid West and Kimberley so still has some red dirt under her fingernails!
Is no stranger to public speaking having spoken at many corporate events and most recently at many breast cancer events, including the Pink Ribbon Ball in front of 400+ people.
Has given many interviews and is very comfortable in front of a journalist or media. She is a confident and engaging public speaker and has been a media spokesperson for several companies. She wrote a monthly blog for the Telstra website, wrote a fortnightly newspaper column in the Pilbara and in her personal time has written four full length novels. Foxtel, ABC , quoted in newspapers
